Good to finally get to see you andrew, If I’m honest i thought it very basic, perhaps could have done with going to the d7th before going to the gmajor, but I’m sure you would know that. i’d like to see some examples from your blues dvd and maybe some examples from project x, all sounds good on paper,as it were, but it’d be good to really see your chops! duncan.

Understanding the principles of the tonic, sub-dominant and dominant chords it’s very important if talking about composing songs like a professional… but I think that it’s much more important to have inspiration, feelings, emotions… the true art is when you transmit with the help of your song what is inside you… many beautiful songs were written by people who have no idea what is tonic or sub-dominant chords!

Wanted to drop a line myself. Due to the use of video I am sure we will all be able to see the chops of Andrew. As far as the blues DVD – it is certainly worth watching!

I was thinking myself about what you just said. The principles of the tonic, sub-dominant and dominant chords are there. It was long discovered by the early musicians. It is very obvious that some chords just sound good together. That’s the reason why some many of the popular songs from folk and country to heavy metal are based on the three chord and four chord progressions. It is true that you can compose songs of the more simpler genres just using your ears and putting together chords that sound good without any musical theory, and yet classical, jazz and advantage music requires serious study of harmony.
