Those same heavy issues are still around and their effect must be expressed.  The blues are a way to free the heart and mind of those heavy issues. 

 Playing the blues is the channel flowing from the deep dark hole of a lost situation, to an ocean of clarity.  Each note is another part of that flow to that clarity. I want to play the blues because my expressions want to be added to others who have offered a solution to those heavy issues.  It is a path to freedom.
